2023 Family Trip to Washington DC - Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial - Day 07 Pt 2- 2023/05/04

We're in DC and just finished a fun morning and afternoon at the Smithsonian National Zoo seeing the pandas. It's our last full day in DC, so before we go, there's a couple big sites we need to see.

Like the reflecting pool, Lincoln Memorial, and Washington Monument!

Our metro stop dropped us off near the Washington Memorial. We took the time to let the kids play around a bit and burn some energy. Alli showing off her flexibility.

She's got those splits down.

The Washington Monument is built on a slight hill. It was enough for the kids to want to roll down.

And why not piggy back rides too.

Next, we'll walk by the reflecting pool over to the Lincoln Memorial.

The geese were being well behaved.

Looking back towards the monument.

Pausing for a snack break while we enjoy the ambiance.

Over to the Lincoln Memorial.

Love this picture of the two of them.

Looking online, I see that many kids have discovered the fun of sliding down the sides of the stairs leading up to the Lincoln Memorial. I even saw a video of a Grandma doing it. You can get going pretty fast down that marble! It's quicker than you might expect!

Over to see Mr. Lincoln.

We remember our trip to Gettysburg National Park, and seeing the battlefield where part of the Civil War took place

And then further to Gettysburg Cemetery where the actual Gettysburg Address was given.

Our day completed, it's time to walk back to the hotel. Passing some ducks that call the reflecting pool their home.

And some baby ducklings! I remember coming here when I was Ian and Alli's age and seeing ducklings in the reflecting pool.

Back to the Washington Monument to watch the sunset.

Sitting down while the kids play.

And loving the beautiful clouds as the sun sets.

Our path back home takes us by the rose garden again. There's always time to stop and smell the roses.

Gotta smell the ones that are way in there. Alli getting a little help from Theresa to lean in deep.

Back towards the hotel.

But not before stopping in to see our friends at the McDonalds nearby. Gotta get our french fries and ice cream cones. The kids have made a really good impression on the staff here. Always with their pleases and thank yous. We told them it was our last night here and they gave the kids extra treats and the manager came around the counter and gave them hugs. Really nice experience here.
Tomorrow we're headed back to Michigan, but not before a couple extra stops in the morning!
