Haribo Sour Soda Gummy Cola - Taste Test Comparison
As Alli and I were walking through a CVS, she happened to see something new on the candy shelves.
Alli - Can we get these? Joe - If we can do a taste test...
Haribo Sour Sodas! Now we are big fans of those Fizzy Cola gummies from Haribo. Less so the cola gummies that don't have the sour sugar powder on the outside, but these promise to all be sour!
There's 3 fun flavors in every package, and we're going to be trying each one along with an equivalent soda flavor!
The front of the package has a little see-through window where we can view the gummy bottled sodas.
Might be the first time I've noticed the Haribo slogan. "Kids and grown-ups love it so... ... the happy world of Haribo!"
We can see the three different flavors on the back of the package.
Lemon-Strawberry, Peach-Blue Raspberry, and Cherry-Cola.
Now normally we'd try something like this along with the product it was imitating, to see how close they got to each one. But I haven't heard of a peach-blue raspberry soda, or a lemon-strawberry soda. What are we to do?
Luckily for us, Jacob has a drinkmate which lets you carbonate any beverage you want, turning it into a soda!
All I had to do was find the flavors.
For our Peach-Blue Raspberry, I picked up some blue raspberry powdered drink mix (Icee brand) along with Peach Torani syrup.
Crystal Light will be doing the heavy lifting for our Lemon-Strawberry soda.
And we'll use regular SodaStream syrup for the standard Cherry-Cola flavor.
The cherry cola was super easy. Just add the appropriate amount of pumps to the cold water, attach to the drinkmate and carbonate it as much as you want!
For the Lemon-Strawberry, I'm just going with about as much powder as you're supposed to add to this amount of water.
Shake it all up while it's not carbonated.
Then add all the fizzy little bubbles.
Lastly we have the Peach-Blue Raspberry. That's an interesting soda flavor combination. Without much to go on, I added some squirts of peach syrup to the water, then added a packet of the blue raspberry powder.
Wow! That is certainly an interesting color!
Here's all the different gummy candies. I like how they're all two-toned colors in the classic bottle shape.
Joe - Alli, since you found these, which flavor should we start off with?
Alli - Cherry-Cola.
Joe - Starting with the gummies or the soda?
Alli - The gummies.
Joe - They're soft.
Jacob - And very tasty.
Theresa/Ian - Mhhmm.
Joe - And just a little sour. I get that little back of the cheeks tingle from them. These are good! And the flavor?
Jacob - I get a hint of cola. And some sort of berry.
Joe - But they're good!
And now for the Cherry-Cola soda.
Joe - That's a wild cherry soda. I like my cola with cherry when it's available. No complaints here!
Theresa - Let's get Peach-Blue Raspberry out of the way next. I don't think I'm going to like it.
Joe - You don't usually like blue raspberry flavored things, do you.
Joe - Soft again.
Jacob - That's peach! I get mostly peach.
Joe - Me too. And it is Haribo peach. It's just like the peachy rings flavor.
Jacob - And a little more sour.
Joe - Theresa. What say you, you who are sensitive to blue raspberry.
Theresa - I like it.
Joe - You're not really tasting the... DID YOU JUST EAT THE TOP!!!
Theresa - I ate both to even it out.
Joe - It's very peach.
Theresa - Which is very good.
Ian - There's hardly any blue raspberry in that.
Theresa - I know! Which is fantastic!
Now for the drink.
Jacob - That smells like cotton candy kindof. Icee cotton candy.
Joe - Ugh. No. Neither of those are good. Blue raspberry might be fine on its own, but with the peach it's bad.
Theresa - I don't like that at all.
Joe - I don't like the combination. Maybe peach by itself or peach by itself. It almost tastes medicinal. I don't know if it's the combination of the two.
Jacob - It smells like it could be good.
Now the last one, which has to be good, is Lemon-Strawberry.
Joe - Theresa, I see you wiggling your fingers to pass one to you NOW!
Theresa - That's how my mom would do it.
Jacob - It's also good.
Joe - I like the Haribo Sour Soda Mix. Three pretty good flavors.
Theresa - Haribo, you done good.
Joe - And how is the homemade strawberry-lemonade?
Jacob - Sparkling Strawberry Lemonade.
Theresa - I'm not sure about that.
Joe - Have you noticed how it adds a little bit of carbonic acid to it, making it a little more tangy than regular drink mix?
Jacob - It's hard to believe this one doesn't have any sugar in it, because it tastes really sweet.
Theresa - It's my favorite drink out of all of them.
Ian - It reminds me of a smoothie.
Joe - Is anyone interested in going back through these and trying only half? Ian - They're not all one flavor. It's separate. (Tasting the blue raspberry gummy half by itself) Joe - I don't get the peach. You're right. Jacob - But having the cap, I definitely get peach. I really just want the sour peach all the way through. Joe - The blue raspberry isn't as intense as the peach. Jacob - The Lemon-Strawberry cap is definitely lemon, and the bottom is berry. Yum! Good job Haribo! Joe - And the Cherry-Cola definitely tastes like only cherry, and the classic Haribo gummy cola on the other side.
What were the favorites of the Haribo Sour Soda gummies?
Ian - Cherry-Cola, because I like the fizzy colas. Jacob - Peach-Blue Raspberry loses because it's half good. I really like the peach, but not the other half. The other two tie for first. Alli - I like the Cherry-Cola best. Joe - Mine was the Lemon-Strawberry. Theresa - Mine was the Peach, even though there's blue raspberry. Joe - Are they better than peach rings? Theresa - Yes, because they're sour! Joe - The peach rings are just sugar? No citric acid sourness to it huh?
Joe - And the texture. I really liked the softness of these gummies. It's not just like jelly in your mouth. But they're soft like they've been in a warm car almost. Theresa - They need more chew. Alli - More chew? I like them soft.
We really enjoyed these Haribo Sour Soda Gummies. Definitely going to buy these again!
Sounds like a fun, yummy find in those Sour Soda Gummies! Quite some experimentation creating the liquid soda side (I thought it was a pretty aqua blue color result for that Peach-Blueberry soda creation). Theresa had the funniest response to the Peach-Blueberry gummy: "tastes great because there's no blueberry flavor!" :-) EOM
