Theresa gathered all my family in Los Angeles for a birthday surprise! It was a big surprise to me because it wasn't my birthday for another month! But it's actually Megan's birthday today!
We joined Pop Pop and the kids for breakfast at the hotel.
Then they got some pool time in.
Last night at the Comedy and Magic Club we watched one of the performers balance shoes on his nose for 10 seconds. How hard could it be? Yeah, that's not a skill I have at the moment.
Because it's Megan's birthday, we're going someplace she's always wanted to go to eat. A place that has earned a Michelin Star.
It's Din Tai Fung, home of the World's Best Dumplings.
They make the dumplings by hand, behind a glass window so you can watch.
Someone is excited.
We're ready to enjoy a tasty lunch!
Theresa really liked the cucumber salad.
The braised beef noodle soup.
The Pork Xiao Long Bao, soup dumplings, is their specialty, and it's pretty delicious. Savory and Rich with great flavor.
Pricy at $5 per dumpling, but I really wanted to try the Truffle and Pork Xiao Long Bao.
And it was so good. My favorite thing we sampled during lunchtime.
Steamed Pork Buns.
Pork Chop Fried Rice.
Everything was delicious, but what about dessert?
They've got us covered there too. Chocolate and Mochi Xiao Long Bao!
The inside tasted like melted chocolate chips and was super rich and chocolatey.
Lunch was really tasty!
Where are the kids? At Chuck E Cheese! Eating pizza and playing games.
Ian's getting good at the milk jug toss, though he's not happy that the ticket payout isn't what the machine says. Not 250 tickets for the grand prize like the back sign says. Or even 1000 tickets like the sign on the front of the machine says. No, it gives 100 tickets. We've seen this all over the country now at different Chuck E Cheese's. They promise one ticket payout and give another. Sometimes the managers will give you the tickets if you bring it up, but this store didn't, which doesn't make us happy.
The day isn't nearly over yet though. There's still plenty more that Theresa has planned. The three siblings and their wives all hopped in the van and braved LA traffic to head downtown! We'll pick it up from there in the next post.
