Hawaii Day 2 - Waikiki - 2025/07/03

Time for Day 2 of our trip to Hawaii!

No one was moving fast as the morning came. Everyone was happy to catch up on sleep. We don't have any particular goals or places that we have to see while we're here on the island, so we're pretty much just going with the flow and doing whatever we choose during the day.
At 9am, we headed down to breakfast at the globalist lounge.
There was a selection of fruits and cereals, pastries, french toast, and if you like your eggs wet, these are for you.

Tasty enough.

And for the asian visitors, miso soup and a huge pot of rice.

Let's explore a little bit. We could rent a lounge bed for $80, or a cabana for $200, but they're not even beside the ocean. I think we can do better.

Just outside the hotel is some of the calmest water on the island in Waikiki Bay and Waikiki Beach Cove. There's rock jetties that sandwich this section, keeping the water pretty mellow.

Walking along the sidewalk beside the water. It's a beautiful day today.

There's that wild looking tree with all those crazy looking branches that make up the trunk. We even saw a little mouse running around between the roots.

Back when we lived in California, we had a plumeria tree in the front yard. The fragrance that came from the flowers was intoxicating. These Plumeria trees are growing all along the water here, dropping their flowers on the pathway. Ian found a couple newly fallen ones and gave them to Alli and Theresa. You two look lovely.

And a short time later, someone from a Hawaii tourism board who was by the strand, gave both Theresa and Alli plastic hair clips of the same flower, so they'll always have a memento of their visit here.

One of the things I know we're going to want to do while we're here is play in the water. Right outside the hotel is a rental shop where we can get boogie boards. $15 for just 2 hours is a little more than I want to pay right now, so we'll look when we go shopping.

That shopping we'd intended to do yesterday we're now doing today. After retrieving the car from the parking garage, we headed out. First stop was Walmart where we got a few snacks and other food. They've got boogie boards here with a range of quality. Not sure if the kids are going to enjoy it, so for now we're looking at something cheap. $15 for those boards. Not bad, but I was thinking we might be able to find them even cheaper.

Not too far away was a Goodwill! Love the colorful mural as we were walking in.

And here we found some boogie boards that someone had donated for $8 each plus a pail to play in the sand. Perfect!

While we're out and about, there is one other thing on this island that we know we like. It's always fun to see a new Chuck E Cheese and we've been to so many new ones over the summer. Why not add another?

Inside it's the typical games we're used to seeing. I wonder if they'll have good ticket payouts?

Well, maybe not the best. The 5 milk jug bonus is usually 250 tickets or so. Just being 50 here, so it's not great.

But they do have an Avengers coin pusher that Theresa loves, and it's working!

A little bit of Down The Clown for me and Alli, though they didn't have many of the balls, so we couldn't get points very fast. We set the high score a couple times, but after that it just wasn't possible.

It was fun to see an animatronic Chuck E Cheese though! So many stores are going to the digital screens only.

They've got a few games here that we don't see everywhere. Alli loves Dizzy Chicken.

And why not play some TMNT all together.

When we can, I like to see what the food coming out of the kitchen looks like before we order anything. In this case, it appears the pizzas are the thinnest and flattest pies imaginable. These almost look like thin crusts. Definitely not ordering that.

So instead we ordered something I'd never seen on a Chuck E Cheese menu before. A hot dog! That, along with fries, plus a cheese bread for good measure.

And there's a special flavor of Dippin' Dots here?

Hawaiian Crumble. Pineapple Ice and Coconut Ice Cream with Cake Crumbles.

We tried it and I thought it was very tasty.

After our CEC visit, there's one more stop we need to make before we head back to the hotel. The local Costco to get a beach umbrella and some water floats. One of Theresa and my favorite things to do is to just float in a lounger in the water and read. Might as well get a snack from the food court while we're here.

The food at the lounge tonight wasn't particularly appetizing to me. Some sort of seafood pasta, bleh. Good thing I bought some ramen bowls from Walmart earlier.

After dinner, we all headed to the water for the first time to relax and chill before the sun sets.

The loungers that we bought from Costco were a complete bust. You can see the one Theresa is holding is so floppy and loose, and the foam beads inside were barely enough to keep you above the waterline. Definitely can't relax and read a book in this.

But the kids are enjoying their boogie boards. I took them out to the deeper water to try to get some waves.

And barring that, I just grabbed the leashes and pulled them around in the shallows by the shore. We'll have to try again tomorrow when the waves are a little higher.

Ian's finding some nice shells along the beach too.

We got cleaned up in the room (nice to have two showers) and went back to the lounge for dessert. They kept bringing new things out, but my favorite was definitely the lemon bars.

Back in our room, we have a lovely view of the sky as the sun is setting.

Alli had to have a pack of balloons from Walmart to play keepy-uppy in the hotel room before bed. Tomorrow is July 4th, so I'm not sure what all we'll be doing, but it should be fun whatever it is.
