Eat the Movies - Home Alone - 2025/12/13
It's the Christmas Season so that means we're watching all our favorite holiday movies. And there's one Christmas movie that is always on the top of my list. I think I was just the right age when it came out for me and my brothers to be obsessed with it.
Home Alone is always a blast to watch! But we've watched it many many times already. How can we make it special?
Luckily my brother and his wife just got back from a trip to Vegas where they learned about a dining experience called Fork n' Film where they have themed dinners set to movies. That sounds like an awesome idea! We could totally do that! We're in a hotel room tonight because T had a free night expiring. And Jacob also grabbed a room and decided to be a part of the fun too!
Of course since we're doing this at a hotel, it took a bit of planning to get everything there. We took a few trips to the grocery store. Can't miss another opportunity to be like the movie. I sent Ian through the line by himself to pay.
(You'll have to forgive the many many quotes from the movie that I'll be making as we go along).
Cashier - Are you here all by yourself?
He checked out no problem (using a credit card even, which I guess could be a tie-in to the second movie...).
Checking in to the hotel, we've got a few extra things to bring up to the room. A portable freezer and a microwave.
The movie starts off with action right away, with the family running around the house.
Ian, Alli, go easy on the Pepsi!
A pizza delivery boy from Little Nero's arrives and brings 10 pizzas to the McCallister house for the family, so our first meal is of course, pizza!
Kevin - Did anyone order me a plain cheese? You know I hate sausage, and olives, and onions ...
Kate McCallister - I hope you're all drinking milk, I want to get rid of it!
Digging it! We've got just a little while to wait before our next course. Then they're going to come quick!
As soon as Kevin realizes he's made his family disappear he starts celebrating!
One of the first things he does it jump on his parent's bed eating popcorn!
That's one of the reasons we had to bring the microwave up to the room.
And a short time later Kevin ends up in Buzz's room looking through his trunk.
Inside we see Twinkies, Junior Mints, and Sugar Babies.
And then there's the giant ice cream sundae!
Kevin - Guys! I'm eating junk and watching rubbish! You better come out and stop me!
We took care to make this obscene sundae as accurate as possible, with chocolate sauce, giant marshmallows, cherries, and whipped cream.
And there's Pepsi and Crunch Tators in the background. Might as well enjoy those too. Since Crunch Tators were discontinued, we made due with a similar texture and flavor kettle chip instead.
For our next treat, we move to the Village Police Department.
Over to Sergeant Balzak, who has a stack of chocolate donuts and is eating them while on the phone.
Has the child been involved in a violent altercation with a drunken and or mentally ill member of his immediate family? Has he been involved in a household accident? Has the child ingested any poison and or any other object that has become lodged in his throat?
Sergeant Balzak - You want us to go to your house, just to check on him...
I think we'll skip the shrimp cocktail... eww.
Finally.
A lovely cheese pizza. Just for me.
You gotta share Ian.
Later, Kevin goes to meet Santa to ask for his family to come back.
Santa - My elf took the last of the candy canes home to her boyfriend. Everyone who sees Santa has to get something. Hold out your little paw there.
Don't spoil your dinner.
Just before the burglars arrive at 9pm, Kevin sits down to a meal. He'd bought it earlier from the grocery store when he was shopping alone. We could see he bought a Kraft Frozen Mac & Cheese dinner. I couldn't find any Kraft branded frozen mac & cheese meals, so I had to decide where to go with Kraft Mac & Cheese, or another brand frozen mac & cheese. In the end, we stuck with Kraft. Even though it's not frozen, it's still microwaveable.
Bless this highly nutritious microwavable macaroni and cheese dinner, and the people who sold it on sale.
And we could see he's got a tall glass of milk to go with it.
After all the antics with Harry and Marv, Kevin cleans up the house then sets out cookies and milk for Santa. And not just cookies, but also carrots for the reindeer.
Yum!
Looks like we've got a lot of cleanup to do too, just like Kevin!
Everyone grab your favorite food from the movie!
Alli - Carrots
Jacob - Donuts
Theresa - Mac & Cheese
Ian - Pepsi
Joe - Pizza
Well that was a really fun way to experience the movie and something we've never done before! What other movies would be good to do next?
