It's our last day in Washington DC and we've had a lot of fun on this trip! Our flight out isn't until the afternoon, so we've still got a few hours to explore!
They even had an actual moon rock, but unlike the one in the Smithsonian museum, this one is not behind glass! You can actually touch it!

Made in Boulder Colorado, Astronaut Foods has been making this ice cream since the early 1970s! If you ever had freeze dried astronaut ice cream, it probably came from here!

The astronaut ice cream was a mixed hit. Alli did not care for it at all. Theresa could go either way. Ian and I both enjoyed it.
One last place to see. The United States Botanic Garden! Theresa loves growing and flowering things!
It's a little chilly outside, but it's a warm greenhouse in here!
All the different places to see, but the Kitchen Garden is high on Theresa's list of spots to visit.
A volunteer showing us some real cocoa bean pods! There's examples of the entire process of going from pods to actual chocolate. We can see and smell the dried cocoa beans. They do smell like chocolate. Then there's the nibs where the actual chocolate comes from. We saw the cocoa powder and even got to feel cocoa butter. We love interactive demonstrations!
In the Garden Court.
All the fruit here is used. Either for demonstrations, tastings, classes, or when it's too ripe, compost. So no picking!
Wow! Look at all those different ears of corn!
We had to send Grandpa a picture because all those corn kernels reminded us of how much he likes popcorn.
So much of the US can be farmed. The kids were both working on booklets to help them discover more about the botanic gardens.

It's Aloe! Grammy really likes aloe and would grow her own. We sent her a picture.
And another special plant that we've got to send a picture of to Grandpa. It's coffee!
Here's something I love. Pineapples! They're so cute when they're little.
Humans protect and preserve plants for eating later. What can we find?

Afterwards, it was back over to the hotel to pick up all our luggage and head to the airport.
We made it the entire trip without needing a rental car! Hooray for well connected public transportation!
Time to head back to Michigan! We loved our trip to DC!
