Disney around the World - Day 6 Part 3 - Shanghai Disneyland 2018-10-19
It's been a fun morning so far at Shanghai Disneyland. Let's continue through to the afternoon. There's a few shows that we don't want to miss.
While we're waiting, Alli thinks Ian needs another sticker. Good call. Never can have too many stickers.
We are queued to watch Taichi with Character. A demonstration of the Chinese exercise that is called "Meditation in Motion". It's a low-impact, slow moving exercise meant for improving balance, flexibility, and health. And we'll get a demonstration here in front of the castle! People pay a lot of money for "Yoga in front of the castle" during RunDisney events, and we get this one for free!
The kids making use of the open space to burn off some energy of their own.
Soon, our instructor came out.
Everything was in Chinese, but we could follow along with the motions.
Ah, here's a couple characters. Chip and Dale!
Imagine trying to teach the calm and reserved Taichi to a couple of hyper chipmunks.
And then Donald came out to join them too!
Thanks for the demonstration!
Not my video, but someone has recorded it.
There's another show going on in front of the castle shortly, so we figured it would be a good time to get a few pictures. Like with the giant pumpkin.
The whole area of the hub is called the Gardens of Imagination, and just to the right of it is the Garden of the Twelve Friends. These panels use different Disney Characters to represent the signs of the Chinese Zodiac.
Ruston was born in the year of the Rooster.
I didn't highlight it too much, but the kids were little celebrities, having people ask to get their pictures together.
Who doesn't love Mushu.
Being born in 2013, Ian was born in the Year of the Snake! Here we see Kaa from The Jungle Book. In 2025 (the next year of the Snake), Kaa was replaced by Gary from Zootopia 2!
2015 is the year of the Sheep/Goat, and Alli is posing with the Jolly Holiday Lambs.
Theresa and I celebrate the Year of the Monkey with Abu.
It's time for the castle show called Golden Fairytale Fanfare!
There's quite the turn-out as people are waiting in the rows in front of the castle.
So many performers here! They're singing in Chinese so we can't understand a thing, but it's pretty!
And we get to see lots of our favorite characters, and all those songs are in English. Like the 7 Dwarfs and Snow White.
Elsa and Anna. They make good use of the water fountains with Elsa and her magic.
Aladdin and Jasmine appear in a giant elephant "balloon".
And we love the Little Mermaid!
They did a good job thinking about sightlines here, with everyone having a pretty good view of the show from the sloped castle forecourt. And there's no children going up on shoulders at the last minute to block your view either! Theresa and I held the kids at waist level so they could see best.
It was a surprise to see Merida! But watching her horse gallop around the stage (with two pairs of legs underneath) was fun.
Definitely a golden show. Mickey and Minnie showed up at the end wearing golden outfits, and all the princesses have changed as well. Snow White, Elsa, Anna, Jasmine, Ariel, and Merida all sport golden dresses.
That was a fun show!
A recording made my someone else from around the same time.
Just a short one today, but we'll pick up from here on the next one.
