It's our last day here in Hawaii. So far it's been a very relaxing trip, which has been perfect. Let's jump into it!
Of course, this isn't the first time that Ian's made a lei. Way back in 2018 when we visited Aulani, he made one for his sister and his mom.
And so of course I had to recreate that picture. A lot has changed in 7 years, hasn't it.
Beautiful Alli.
Well 20 minutes after those people who put themselves on the list but didn't show up, Theresa and I got the opportunity to make leis also.
Love being able to do this together.
Family photo!
There's another class right after the lei making class, so we stuck around for another hour to make sure we didn't get bumped.
First (and only ones) in line!
This is called Ulana Lauhala, which means the leaf of the Hala. These leaves are used to weave mats, baskets, jewelry and more. These leaves came from our instructor's garden!
We learned about the history of waving, the basics of weaving, the starting pattern, and more. Then we were free to make whatever pattern we liked! There were some suggestions like a fish, a heart, a star, and more.
Or, if you wanted, you could make whatever you wanted. I chose my favorite island fruit, the pineapple! Scissors were allowed to help trim and shape any of the edges. I used it to make the pineapple leaves!
Along with a pencil, Ian has made himself a 1st place ribbon!
A heart from Alli, and a kite by Theresa. I took some of my scraps, trimmed them in half to make a smaller weave, then made a super tiny heart. With the addition of a string, we now have ornaments for a Christmas tree!
Thank you Auntie for teaching us!
Great job everyone!
One of the "treats" by the pool that we realized they were handing out for free were these pineapple sorbet cups. I really do love pineapple, but no, these were not good. Maybe not as bad as those Dole Whip Frozen Treats, but none of us chose to eat it.
What else do we want to do with our last day here? Why not one more trip to the best Chuck E Cheese we've been to.
Happy to see the happiest Chuck E Cheese out and playing games with everyone.
Then snacking on some cheesy bread and a cookie before dinner.
Dinner again was in the lounge. Some of the birds are aggressive, but some are really pretty.
Watching the sunset from our balcony.
Back to the lounge where it's time for dessert. Very pretty.
Before we go to bed tonight, we tagged up with another family we met during the trip, and passed off the beach umbrella, boogie boards, and floats since they've got a more days here. We've still got a bit more traveling to do this summer and I'm not going to haul all that around with us.
The next morning... Ugh. It's so early. It was still dark outside when we woke up and started packing the room. We got to see the sun rise from our balcony too. Bleh.
At the airport at 6:30am and Starbucks is the only thing that's open.
Goodbye Hawaii! It's been fun! Time for the next part of this summer adventure!
