2025 Summer Vacation - Traveling to Michigan for Tyler's birthday, plus lots of Chuck E Cheese - 2025/07/10

Time to continue our summer of travel. We're leaving Chicago and headed to Michigan!

Yesterday we got to spend a half day at Six Flags Great America, but there's no time to go again today. We've got to get in the car and drive! Off to Michigan!
Along the way, we wanted to pick up some treats for everyone who doesn't come this way often. We've been waiting for our H-Mart in Orlando to open for years now.

Right beside this one, our favorite bakery 85C just opened a couple days ago!

Inside they have all our favorite breads.

We've got plenty for all the Michigan family now.

A bit of a drive today as we cross under Lake Michigan. There's about 5 hours ahead of us until we get where we're going.

Just a quick stop in Indiana before we get to Michigan.

We dropped the rental car off at the Detroit airport and got picked up by Richard.

Grammy! Good to see you!

Here's what we were racing to get here for! We're celebrating!

It's Tyler's 50th birthday!

And there's a whole house full of people here to celebrate him!

There's been a few health challenges this year, and we're happy to have him here to celebrate him!

We play a few fun games around the house with everyone.

But the next day, it's time to continue our summer of Chuck E Cheese fun! I took the kids to the nearest CEC to see what's new with the games and ticket payouts. Not super impressed with the 25 ticket bonus here. Nice score though Ian!

And didn't this used to be a 100 ticket bonus? Alli and I knocked over all the snowmen and got 960 points!

We've really been focusing on basketball this summer. I was able to beat the high score of 119 with a score of 123!

And Alli helped feed me beanbags while I slowly walked up the score on bean bag toss, winning 50 tickets each time.

But tonight, we've got to get back home again to celebrate Tyler again! Tonight we're having steak! Yum!
How many times are we going to celebrate your birthday Tyler?

Well, just a few days later, we're celebrating someone else. There's lots of July birthdays in this family. Happy Birthday Amy!

Now that the cousins are working, they get some fun opportunities! I remember when Ethan was younger, Theresa and I took him to "Take Your Kids To Work Day" out in California. Now Ethan is taking Ian to his work at Detroit DTE Energy for TYKTWD!

They had some trivia questions about renewable energy, and Ian offered suggestions for ways to create and recover energy. They said not to give those ideas away for free. You need to develop them and get paid for it!
Ian loved his free water bottle, and loved it even more that Ethan has a free flavored sparkling water dispenser at his office.

Ian even got to meet DTE CEO Jerry Norcia.

They had a lot of fun stuff for the kids.

Free lunch and dessert! Awesome!

Even volleyball afterwards.

Thanks Ethan! I know Ian had a lot of fun today!

But what about Alli? She was invited, but she thought it would be fun to do a daddy/daughter day together instead.

Let's go explore!

Where? We're going to hit 3 different Chuck E Cheese's in the area and figure out our favorite.

This one, where we can win 100 tickets on Down the Clown?

Nice Alli! You're building up those basketball skills for sure!

Together we're maxing out the machine!

Even better with a 73 Alli!

A basketball game that I can clean up on! Walking the score up point by point from 100 and getting 100 tickets each time! Score!

Our second CEC was a bit of a bust. Didn't find too many fun games, so we packed up and headed on to the next one.

Harder settings than the one earlier today, but Alli was happy with her 62.

So many of the balls have disappeared since the last time we were here that it was difficult to get a high score.

Yum! Grammy and everyone else has been busy making Korean food tonight.

Austin is home! And he's got a free afternoon!

We took him back to the best CEC we found so we could all earn some big tickets.

A tasty lunch.

Then we all took on the basketball game.

Well that was the first half of our visit to Michigan, but there's still plenty more to go. In fact, what is everyone so busy and secretive now? Coming over to Grammy's place to do lots of food prep and such.

And visitors showing up super late at night? Hmm. Something is definitely going on...
