Disney around the World - Day 5 Part 4 - Shanghai Disneyland 2018/10/18

Say what? Another update to the long awaited all around the world Disney trip? Yes, it's time to make another effort to get this trip report from 2018 (wow, 7 years ago) finished. This is the one that the kids ask me to finish writing most often, but it's also the most daunting with thousands and thousands of pictures to sort through. But let's take another crack at it.

We're at Shanghai Disneyland, having already visited Korea on our first stop of the journey, then continuing to Shanghai China! This is Day 5 of our 13 day trip, and we're continuing on to Hong Kong Disneyland then Tokyo Disneyland next! I've got a lot of writing still left to go!

Shanghai has a big castle and you can go inside!

Somewhat similar to the castle at Disneyland in Anaheim, there's a story of a princess in here. But which princess could it be?

As we walk up the stairs, we encounter Elsa and Anna.

Merida.

Rapunzel.

Tiana.

Mulan.

Pocahontas

Jasmine

Belle

Ariel

Aurora

Cinderella

So many princesses, but who is the original Disney princess? Snow White.

And this is her story.
We walk through a combination of real props, with screens behind them, showing animations.

And I guess they don't always act right, with computer warnings popping up and interrupting the display.

A video someone else took with a walk-through.

Down the stairs to get back to ground level.

At the bottom level, there's beautiful mosaics, similar to what's found in the Walt Disney World Cinderella Castle, but with many princesses. Like Rapunzel.

Elsa and Anna.

Merida.

And looking up, there's a really nice looking chandelier.

I think we've gone long enough without a snack. What do you think? Definitely.

Alli loved her chocolate covered Mickey bar. The ears were chocolate ice cream and the head was vanilla ice cream!

Ian's Donald pop was a blue raspberry hat, banana head (bleh), and lemon duck bill. The strawberry Minnie Mouse ice cream was also very tasty.

Jacob's pretzel was warm and came with a mustard style salad dressing. Ruston's churro came out hot and extra sugary.

What else can we not miss? How about the Tarzan show! It's getting close to showtime! Better walk over quickly!

Ah, no food or drinks inside, so we had to wait outside while we finished our popsicles.

Alli thinking "let me help you with that Ian". He's a good brother and always willing to share.

Inside, we found seats and were all facing this giant box looking curtain.

All set and ready to watch a fun show!

It's a Cirque du Soleil style show with a whole lot of different performers.

I was amazed at the last of safety restraints and nets, not even seeing the performers put their hand through loops when they're doing high stunts over the stage.

But I love these circus style shows.

I'm amazed by the balance, coordination, and strength of all these performers.

Not my video, but I'm thankful someone recorded it.
Alli - I'm glad Tarzan was the winner. He's a good boy.
When it was time to clap for everyone, she was a very enthusiastic clapper and got very excited.

Next, we'd all head over to a kids play area in Treasure Cove called Siren's Revenge.

Outside the ship, a woodcarver has been hard at work making figureheads for the ships.

You look like you're up to something.

Ian, what have you done!

You've split him in twain!

Alli, give it a try.

Next, we'd head aboard the Siren's Revenge, a ship laden with treasure and belong to a friend of Captain Jack Sparrow, his first mate Joshamee Gibbs, or as we know him Mr. Gibbs.

Here you'll find great views as you look out across the waters to Adventure Isle.

Or across the water to the Shanghai Disney castle itself.

Aboard the ship there's cannons you can fire that make noise!

Let's go below deck to see what treasures we can find.

No whistling! Is this a normal thing? I've seen a "No Whistling" sign in the queue for Big Thunder Mountain at Walt Disney World Orlando too.

Checking out a bunk below deck. Just about his size.

A painting of Captain Jack that actually moves!

Ah, I didn't know we were traveling with a wanted man. A poster below decks shows that I could get 2-3 guineas or a chicken if I turned Jacob in.

Wanted: Babyface

Double Trouble.
Arrgh.

Throw them into the brig!

Wow, look at all that golden treasure.

Heading back upstairs.

Ah, there's Mr. Gibbs.

Let's see if we can sail this ship outta here!

Maybe it'll work better with two.

Playing with a few of the interactive elements on the ship. Like a loud bell you can ring (and scare the unsuspecting).

Poles to climb.

Lost his leg battling tiger sharks in the Caribbean.

A monster squid bit my leg clean off.

A mosquito bit it, it swelled up, and had to be taken off.

Ian, I don't think that's exactly how that peg leg is supposed to work.

After exploring the Siren's Revenge, it was time to go over to Shipwreck Shore, where a French Galleon has wrecked and created a water play area.

There's treasure about.

A shark attacking the end of a rope pulley.

And this fun water battling section! People walking by were way too dry, so I jumped in and started firing! Other people started joining in and it was a whole lot of fun!

I got a few people who weren't expecting it! And then when I wasn't looking, Jacob snuck over and got me right back in the face! It was a whole lot of fun with lots of people laughing and I even got some high fives from the other kids who joined in.

There was even a giant cannon at the end that Ruston braved his way through the firing water over to. It let out a big blast of water. After the first shot, all the water in the area stopped and the battle was over. Checking the time, ah, 5pm. Must be time to close everything down here. We'll pick up from here on the next post.

  1. Siren's Revenge was soooooooooooo fun...lots to see and explore...booming cannons, how neat!...loved that peg-leg photo spot (those were great poses...also got a big smile with Ian's pose on it :-) )...water play area was a "blast" (loved how you got other guests to join into the fun and had everyone laughing and just having a great time!) Loved the scenic photos from the Siren's Revenge where you're looking out over the water towards Shanghai Castle, especially with the setting sun being captured in them...that dusk lighting gives it a special look compared to when it's bright sunshine. Wonderful to see those Princess figures in the castle along with the colorful mosaics...lovely! That was a cute Donald Duck popsicle (never saw that before!)...Alli made sure there was no last bit of popsicle wasted on the stick :-) :-) What an amazing Tarzan show...lots of acrobatic moves (yes, definitely need LOTS of strength, balance, and coordination to do those stunts...kind of nerve-wracking to watch when no safety nets or harnesses in sight!) EOM
