2023 Family Trip to Washington DC - Day 03 - 2023/04/30

It's Day 3 of our 2023 Washington DC Trip. It's a Sunday and it's rainy so there's not too much on the agenda for today.

Breakfast was at the hotel in the morning. I liked making these tortilla wraps with egg, potatoes, guac, and all sorts of tasty things.

We originally had reservations to go up the Washington Monument this morning, but it has just been a rainy mess of a day. Since we've got a very flexible schedule all week, we cancelled those reservations and hung out inside the hotel room for most of the day.
Later when the rain let up, we took a walk to the Hirshhorn Museum of Modern Art.

Modern Art is pretty different from classical art.

Like this minimalist sculpture that is a single white column of painted wood by Anne Truitt. We'll be back here in a couple days to visit a special ticketed Exhibition that looks really cool.

For now, we'll walk to the next place.

The Air and Space Museum!
An original ship from Star Trek! That's something we haven't watched with the kids.

I love how the warp nacelles rotate and light up, plus all the blinking lights. I sent a video to my friend Steven who loves Star Trek.

Sadly most of the museum is undergoing construction, so we can only see the highlights. And we've got a short window because there's something else we need to do at the end of the day.

A bicycle built by the Wright Brothers! Awesome!
We've been to Kitty Hawk North Carolina and the Wright Brothers National Memorial. I remember when we were there, they had a model of the plane that Wright Brothers flew, and I said I wanted to see the original at the Smithsonian.

And here it is! The actual Wright Flyer!

It's always fun to see history.

Part of this area is sponsored by Alaska Airlines. We made sure to send a picture to Uncle Jon.

McDonalds got us for dinner on the way home with their BOGO cheeseburgers and $1 drinks.

But we're headed home because we've got to get around a TV so we can watch a graduation!

Aubrey is graduating from the University of Michigan!

We couldn't be there in person because she only had a few tickets to attend and those are going to family. But we're cheering from afar. Congratulations Aubrey!
