Saturday Morning Cereals - Cinnamon Toast Crunch Root Beer Float cereal Taste Test Comparison

It's summertime and that means that it's time for products to bring us lots of fun and unique summer flavors!

If you look on this site, you'll see that we've tried dozens of different Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal variants. Today's might be the most unique cereal flavor from them that we've tried though.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch Root Beer Float!

Will it really taste like a Root Beer Float? We're going to try it alongside a real root beer float and see how they compare.

A few pictures of the box art. There's lots of red, white, and blue on this box, along with patriotic fireworks.

On the back of the box is a large ice cream shop style glass with root beer on the bottom and foamy milk on top. Missing are all the Cinnamojis that we might normally see on the box.

Nothing too interesting with the ingredient list.

No Cinnamojis hiding on the UPC label either. Bummer. I like seeing those guys.

To make Root Beer Floats at home, I'll need some tasty root beer and hard frozen vanilla ice cream. We love Barq's because it has bite. And our freezer is normally sitting at -4F so the ice cream is nice and hard.

Good thing because we're going to do this taste test outside with friends! Florida in the summertime is HOT! We'll cool down with a nice treat.

We'll start with the root beer floats made of ice cream and soda.
Joe - I have no complaints with the regular root beer float.
Ian - It tastes like root beer and ice cream.
Camille - I want to just scoop the ice cream out and chomp it.
Ryan - It's been a long time since I've had a root beer float. Eating the ice cream with the frozen crusted root beer part is the best.
Cambridge - I'm getting a brain freeze. I don't really like it. I don't like the soda but I like the ice cream.
Camille - They should make a Butterbeer Ice Cream float.
Joe - That would be good. Better than a frozen butterbeer.

The cereal doesn't look that much different than regular Cinnamon Toast Crunch. It has swirls throughout the cereal pieces and is dusted with something.

Jess - That is a really big box of cereal. What happens if your family really despises it?
Joe - That does happen. Not all our taste tests are winners. Either someone who doesn't hate it takes it home, or it gets thrown out. Sometimes we'll give it to our friend Henry to feed to his goats.

Okay. Now it's time to taste the cereal.
Theresa - Who decided to make a root beer cereal? That's a weird idea.
Joe - Let's try it dry first.
Cambridge - I like it better dried.
Joe - You didn't even try it with milk yet!
Cambridge - But I like it better dry.

Theresa - I am with you. I don't like milk with most of my cereal.
Joe - But how's the flavor?
Ian - I just taste cinnamon and sugar.
Joe - Me too. I'm not getting a strong root beer flavor.
Jessica - It's tasting a lot like normal Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
Theresa - It's like Cinnamon Toast Crunch, but maybe like it tastes a little "off".
Ryan - Like when your Cinnamon Toast Crunch goes bad?
Joe - That's not a good thing. The cinnamon flavor is too strong. There's not even cinnamon in a regular root beer float. It's overpowering any other flavor.
Ryan - Yeah, to me it tastes like regular Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
Joe - It's not distinct enough. What about with milk? Does it bring it out?
Theresa - It's like Cinnamon Toast Crunch with just a little extra spiciness. Hmm.
Jessica - There's a tiny bit of spice.
Camille - With the milk, all the seasoning is gone.

Joe - This is what's on the box. A root beer float topped with Cinnamon Toast Crunch pieces. This one better taste like a root beer float. If anyone still has their cup, I'll pour some cereal in it.
Camille - That's what I thought we'd be doing.
Joe - I like it.

Joe - Root Beer Float Cinnamon Toast Crunch is a little different. But it's just not distinct enough. We were promised a root beer float and if it didn't say it on the box, I don't think I'd have a clue what it was supposed to be.
Theresa - I think they were trying to make it so you'd still like it. Because who would really want a cereal that tasted like root beer?
Joe - I would! That's why I bought it!
Theresa - You just bought it cause it's weird.
Joe - I've never had a root beer cereal. And I still don't think I've had a root beer cereal.

We'll finish our bowls, because Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal is still good. And the root beer floats are delicious.
Jess - There was nothing special about the flavor. I'd just go with regular Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
Ryan - It was fine since Cinnamon Toast Crunch is delicious, but it wasn't distinct enough.
Theresa - I give it a mid to failing grade. Regular Cinnamon Toast Crunch is better.
