A Whipped Cream taste test

What better day to do a whipped cream taste test than on National Sponge Cake Day.

We've got 5 different kinds to try today. Earlier, the kids made their own homemade whipped cream. We'll also be tasting a Cool Whip brand, something from the 99 cent store that has <1% milk in it, plus a couple specialty flavors. Hershey's and Reese's dairy toppings.

To sample them, we'll be trying them with our sponge cake.

Mmm. Doesn't that Reese's whipped creme look appetizing.

As far as favorites go, the adults preferred the homemade whipped cream. You could taste all the ingredients. It was certainly creamy, sweet, and had that vanilla flavor.
The Cool Whip was pretty good too and it's pretty much the flavor I expect out of any can of spray whipped cream.
And honestly, even the cheap one didn't taste bad. Put it side-by-side with others and you will notice some differences, but have it alone or on top of something else, I probably wouldn't notice anything wrong with it.

The kids both preferred the Hershey's flavored whipped cream. And any time you've got a can of whipped cream, you have to get a mouthful like this.

The Reese's whipped cream, I don't know what to say. I like peanut butter. I love Reese's. But having that peanut butter flavor in a whipped cream just wasn't doing it for me. It was the least favorite of everyone.

  1. Got a big chuckle with the "appetizing" appearance of the Reese's whipped cream...after one look, one may not even want to try it (lol). Guess you can't beat the purity of the homemade whipped cream...amazing how much better something tastes in its "most natural/simplest" form without all the extra stuff added in. Before I read the test results, I was thinking the Hershey's one might be a good one since it's chocolate flavored...glad the kids liked it. I think those "whipped cream into the mouth" photos would make for a great TV commercial (maybe those commercials already exist but I've never seen them personally!) EOM
