Happy Easter! We've got a couple more fun Easter themed taste tests before we move on to the next thing.
Some people in our family LOVE Peeps Marshmallows, while others don't. We've tried so many different kinds of Peeps, including dozens of Marshmallow Flavors, Peeps Cereal (two different kinds), Peeps Soda, Peeps Gummies, Peeps Lollipops, Peeps Candy Ropes, Peeps Cotton Candy, and more!
We were all happy to see a new flavor to try this season! It's Pop-Tarts Frosted Strawberry Peeps!
They're always better if you have time to toast them, but in a pinch I'll eat them raw. I'm pretty sure I've tried them Frozen too, but can't find my write-up on it.
Alli - I love Pop-Tarts!
Joe - Do you have a favorite?
Alli - They're good when they're regular. They're SO GOOD when they're warmed. I don't think I've tried them chilled.
Ian - Those Peeps look disappointing on the eyes!
Theresa - It's an alien Peep!
I like the speckled sprinkles that are all over the Peeps. I know Strawberry Pop-Tarts are white icing and speckled, but I get that they need to be pink to give it the strawberry vibe.
Looking at the Strawberry Pop-Tart sprinkles compared to the Peeps, I like that they got all the same sprinkle colors onto the marshmallows.
But, can we talk for a second about how poorly of a job they do now, getting the icing to cover the top of the Pop-Tart? It's nowhere close to the side edges and only covers the bottom.
Let's eat these before they cool down!
Jacob even had one at home that he'd bought recently (in a plastic wrapper, weird) that was even more egregious.
To say nothing about the multitude of sprinkles that are covering the Pop-Tart on the box, compared to what it really looks like. Sigh. Moving on.
I toasted the Pop-Tarts and pulled out my trusty pizza cutter to slice it up cleanly. I was informed by Jacob that I had cut it improperly, leaving the edges of the Pop-Tart that didn't have the middle filling.
I didn't realize it at the time, but looking through past write-ups, saw that I made the same mistake and received the same correction back in 2019 when we tried Pop-Tarts Cereal. (picture from 2019 taste test)
Jacob - The crust is dry and gross.
Theresa - Not worth the calories. The Pop-Tarts Bites we had (also back in 2019) were bad because it was so much crust to filling.
Joe - What if the frosting doesn't reach the edge? And it just has the filling?
Theresa - I need both. The frosting and the filling. Otherwise it needs to go in the trash.
Joe - The best flavor Pop-Tarts! Frosted Strawberry!
Jacob - It's a toss-up between that and Brown Sugar Pop-Tarts. S'mores is also really good. And the Peanut Butter ones.
Joe - I didn't know they had a Peanut Butter Pop-Tart.
Jacob - Mmm.
Ian - Do we have to divide the Peeps?
Joe - Can you eat a whole Peep yourself?
Ian - Yes.
Ian - Yes.
Joe - Give them a smell. I'm smelling strawberry. Am I also smelling a little bit of a "pastry" smell?
Jacob - It smells like cotton candy.
Alli - It's strawberry-ish.
Theresa - Fake strawberry. Fake candy strawberry. That is not Pop-Tart Strawberry.
Ian - That's not a good match. It's good, but it's not what we're looking for.
Joe - That's Nestle Quik strawberry. That's not the same strawberry that's inside the Pop-Tart. And I'm not getting a "pastry" flavor. Maybe I was imagining the smell. I don't hate it.
Jacob - The Pop-Tart filling, as fake as it is, tastes more real than the Peep.
Joe - Looking at the ingredient list, the filling contains less than 2% of dried strawberries, dried pears, and dried apples. It is mostly corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, dextrose, and sugar. That's like 4 kinds of sugar!
Ian - The Peep is way better than the Pop-Tart. I prefer normal Peeps.
Alli - NO!
Jacob - I'm not a big Peeps fan, but those were not bad.
Ian - You ruined it!
Joe - How?
Ian - You got the Peep on Pop-Tart.
Not being a fan of Pop-Tarts he wanted to pull off the toasted Peep and eat it by itself. We can see the marshmallow oozing out of the crispy sugar shell.
