Well, we said we like to taste interesting new things. I think these Pickle Flavored Jelly Beans certainly qualifies.
Among all the other Easter Jelly Bean flavors, we have found something unique. Claussen has come out with a Pickle Jelly Bean! Do you like pickles? I don't but the rest of the family does, so this one promises to be an interesting one. I mean, I've tried a Pickle Milkshake from Epcot before, so why not do a jelly bean.
And just like every other taste test we do, we're going to try these Claussen Pickle Jelly Beans right along side the classic refrigerator case Kosher Dill Claussen Spears.
I appreciate the dark green packaging and see through window. They've also made it plenty obvious that these are pickle flavored.
Do you think anyone is actually going to eat 20 pieces for 110 calories?
Claussen has partnered with Frankford Candy to create these weird jelly beans. Frankford must have a thing for weird snacks because they're also the ones who made the
Kraft Mac & Cheese Gummies.
Made with Natural flavors, so I guess that's good, right?
As far as "do they look like pickles?", no, they definitely do not. Instead of being a dark green or light green, they've gone with a brighter green color. I wonder if it's so they don't get confused with any other green jelly beans that would typically be lime or green apple flavored. They're definitely a unique color amongst the other jelly bean colors I've seen.
The inside is a clear gummy candy. I wonder which part holds all the flavor.
Ian - Let's get this over with.
Joe - What do you mean? Don't you mean "this is exciting!"
Theresa - I don't know why you even buy pickle jelly beans.
Alli - It's a pickle.
Theresa - That is a sweet pickle flavor.
Joe - Alli, where are you going?
Alli - The trash...
Ian - That's dentist flavor.
Joe - How?
Ian - There's a smoky kind of flavor at the end.
Alli - It's dill, but it's a very bad dill.
Joe - Maybe it's the smoky flavor I'm tasting. And I don't love dill flavor.
Theresa - I think they're going to taste more like the pickle than you think. That's sweet, but it's what I remember the Claussen pickles tasting like.
Theresa - Claussen pickles taste more "fresh" than regular pickles.
Joe - So maybe less vinegar flavor and more snappy crunch?
Alli - Do those pickles look good?
I think she's used to the Vlassic kosher dills that are tiny snacking pickles.
Ian - The pickles are pretty good. It's delicious.
Joe - I don't like pickles. I don't like that. But it's better than the jelly beans. What flavors are in this? Garlic, mustard seed, dried red bell pepper.
Theresa - This is weird. When I eat a pickle, I feel like I'm eating a different vegetable. When I eat these Claussen pickles, it's more like I'm eating a pickled cucumber.
Ian - Here goes nothing!
<Both kids eat a bite of pickle and have a jelly bean at the same time.>
Ian - That is much better!
Alli - So much better!
Joe - There is just something in those jelly beans that is not in the pickle.
Alli - Can I have some regular pickles too? Or some baby cucumbers and gochujang?
So what's the verdict on the jelly beans?
Mostly a thumbs down, though T thinks they still do taste like the Claussen pickles.
I let a couple other friends try the jelly beans too and received the following feedback.
Nicole - Oh that is so bad. So bad. Oh, that is not right. Oh dear, it's still stuck in my teeth.
Jacob didn't care for them either.
And the regular Claussen pickles?
Ian - Delicious!
If you do find these Claussen Pickle Flavored Jelly Beans and you're really really a fan of pickles, maybe you'll like them, but for the rest of us, they're a big NO.
