National Banana Split Day - August 25th

First invented by an apprentice pharmacist back in 1904, August 25th is the day we celebrate National Banana Split Day. I'm used to ordering these from an ice cream shop, but this just might be the first time I've ever made one myself.

The base starts of course with a banana and three specific ice cream flavors: Chocolate, Vanilla, and Strawberry.

Next are the toppings, and there is a standard. Strawberry topping goes on the chocolate ice cream. Chocolate topping goes on the vanilla ice cream. And pineapple topping goes on the strawberry ice cream.

Finish it off with chocolate syrup, homemade whipped cream (from our whipped cream taste test), and in lieu of a cherry I used another strawberry.

Bon appetit!

  1. That's a fun, delicious dessert perfect for any day, especially when celebrating a National Day...and you get to point out the healthy 3 fruits as ingredients, too :-) Another yummy way to use that homemade whipped cream. EOM
