Massive 17 M&Ms taste test comparison

M&M recently introduced 3 brand new flavors and invited everyone to vote on their favorites. It was fun tasting all the new peanut M&M flavors last year, so of course we'll be sampling whatever new flavors we can this year.
Finding the flavors proved difficult initially, taking Theresa and I to 4 different stores and only finding 1 kind. Eventually we found all three flavors and decided to take this show on the road. We were traveling to Michigan and thought it would be a lot of fun to sample them with people and discuss our favorites.
And then Theresa said "We should try other flavors too." Heh. She might end up regretting that...

Once we arrived in Michigan, the local Meijer (grocery store) had so many different kinds of M&Ms it was ridiculous. Of course we have to try them all!
There's 17 different flavors here including, Plain, Peanut, 50% Dark Chocolate, 49% Dark Chocolate Peanut, Crispy Mint, Dark Chocolate Mint, Peanut Butter, Pretzel, Crispy Espresso, Coffee Nut (last year's winner), Crispy, Almond, Crispy Raspberry, Minis, Caramel, White Chocolate, and Strawberry Nut.

After splitting all the flavors into different bowls, everyone was let loose try as many as they wanted.

It's a full house here with at least 20 people trying all the different flavors.

Someone is happy. She loves loves loves candy.

It reminds me of trying all the Kit-Kat flavors from Japan.

Ethan didn't want any hints as to what we were tasting, and matched each one up to the bag by taste alone.

I've tried many of these flavors by themselves in years past. This is the first time I've tasted so many at the same time. So what did I learn?
First, Plain M&Ms aren't my favorite. There isn't much going on compared to some of the more complicated ones. Second, I really like the flavor of the Almond M&Ms over any of the Peanut flavors. Third, out of all of the flavors, my favorite was the Peanut Butter M&Ms, with Pretzel being a close second.
Out of the three flavors to vote on, the Crunchy Espresso was tasty, but not my favorite. The Crunchy Raspberry seems to be pretty polarizing. You either like it or hate it. Many have said it tastes fake, and I agree, it tastes like blue raspberry compared to real raspberry. My favorite has to be the Crunchy Mint, which reminds me a little of Girl Scout Thin Mints. Can't go wrong with those!

  1. Not a huge fan of raspberry, so I skipped it. Espresso is definitely like eating a coffee bean. I wouldn't say it's a binge-worthy snack though, more like just tasting it here and there. Mint is the opposite - I could eat the whole bag at once if I wanted.

    1. Upon tasting the raspberry ones again, I get why people are hating it. It does taste a bit like medicine. And yes, the mint ones are tasty.
