Buffalo Wild Wings Parmesan Garlic Sauce flavored popcorn taste test comparison

While wandering around Sams Club, Theresa texted me a photo of a new offering from Smartfood Popcorn! They've previously given us Nacho Cheese Doritos popcorn and Cap'n Crunch Berries Popcorn.

Today though we're trying a match-up with Buffalo Wild Wings and their Garlic Parmesan wing sauce! I loved BW3 wings in college and Garlic Parmesan was definitely something I'd get on 25 cent wing night. It was even better on 50 cent chicken leg day!

So if we're going to try this Garlic Parmesan sauce popcorn, I'm going to make my own drumsticks and cover them in the real Buffalo Wild Wing Garlic Parmesan sauce!

Starting with a bunch of drumsticks that have been dried off with paper towels, covered with salt, pepper, and oil.

And then into the convection oven air fryer hanging down from the rack. I do this outside because all that fat dripping down from the chicken legs makes a bunch of smoke.

After 35 minutes, the skin is looking crispy!

Gotta have a bottle of the real thing to compare against this popcorn.

B-Dub's legendary sauce meets our iconic snack. Get poppin'!

For those who don't care for chicken legs, I also grilled up chicken tenders and covered those in sauce too.

Chicken legs first!
The sauce has a creamy flavor, along with parmesan and garlic. It's tasty!

Grabbing a drumstick covered in the sauce.
The kids don't prefer the sauce flavor, instead asking for ranch or Chick-fil-A sauce.

Let's take a closer look at this popcorn. I have to admit, I was a little bit disappointed with the appearance. When I think about cheese popcorn, I think of the bright orange popcorn that is completely covered. Okay, parmesan isn't orange, but I was still hoping to see a piece of popped corn that is coated with flavor. These seem more to be lightly dusted.
Joe - It smells good!
Theresa - It's parmesan garlic popcorn, so it should be.
Ian - It smells... interesting.

Ian - Oh...
Jacob - I like the parmesan garlic sauce. I'm not sure I like it on the popcorn.
Ian - That is not good.
Theresa - It's not the parmesan garlic flavor I would prefer. I was really hoping for something better than that. I don't even know what those flavors are. They put an herb in it, but that herb is overpowering any parmesan or garlic flavor.
Jacob - Looking at the ingredient list, it has onion powder. And onion powder is ahead of parmesan and garlic powder.
Theresa - I do not like that popcorn.
Jacob - Good thing you don't have a GIANT bag of it.
Theresa - I was hoping it would taste like cheddar popcorn.
Joe - It's just... fine. It's not great.
Theresa - I just wouldn't choose to eat it.

And so, we'll set the bag of popcorn off to the side and enjoy our tasty dinner. And even more drumsticks with my favorite BW3 sauce, Carribean Jerk!

From a couple days before we had some homemade alfredo sauce in the fridge. Theresa pulled it out and had that with her chicken. Now that is the best parmesan and garlic sauce! And there's only 6 ingredients. Parmesan, garlic, butter, heavy cream, salt, and pepper. Yep! That sauce wins over all of this!

  1. Can't beat homemade alfredo sauce made from scratch! Even though the popcorn wasn't the winner as hoped, everyone got to enjoy some tasty chicken covered in their favorite sauces :-) EOM
