Peeps Filled Ropes Taste Test Comparison

As a family, we've tried a whole lots of different Peeps.

Original Peeps to homemade sugared marshmallows, Cotton Candy Peeps, Hot Tamales Peeps, Pancakes and Syrup Peeps, Fruit Punch Peeps, Blue Raspberry Peeps, Sour Watermelon Peeps, Party Cake Peeps, and Root Beer Float Peeps. We compared all those flavors in a Peeps Face-off Taste Test challenge. We bought the chocolate dipped Peeps. We tried Peeps cereal back in 2019, and then again in 2021 when they changed the cereal marshmallows. And when Pepsi came out with a Peeps flavored soda called Peepsi, we tried that too! There was Peeps Cotton Candy, Peeps Gummies, and Peeps Lollipop Rings

So, when I saw another version of Peeps on the shelves this Easter, I knew we'd be trying it. These are Peeps Filled Ropes!

And right off the bat, the kids and I saw that they got the colors wrong. Sure Peeps are blue, pink, and yellow. But not that color blue, pink, and yellow. And Alli wanted to know why there was only one red/pink one.

Hmm, made by Thrive Brands, the same company that made the Peeps Cotton Candy that we didn't really love. Will these be any better? These ropes are soft inside and chewy outside.

These ropes look to be a little squashed. But they are covered with sugar and have a white filling.

Does anyone here really think they'll be good though?
Ian - I'm scared about these.

What should we start with? How about the original Peeps. Who doesn't love a sugar coated marshmallow?

Theresa. Theresa is the person who doesn't like sugared marshmallows. Or really marshmallows in general.
Peeps don't really have a particular flavor to them. They are lightly marshmallow flavored. It's more a texture thing really with the sugary crystals on the outside and soft marshmallow insides.

Hey! These match Theresa's shirt! They blend right in.
Theresa - Am I marshmallow goodness too?
I leaned in and bit her...

Is she the texture of marshmallow?

No! Mommy has rock solid muscles under there! All that 2 years of lifting weights is showing benefits!

Alright, let's do this. How are the Peeps filled ropes?
Joe - Do you think they're different flavors, or will they all be the same?
Ian - All the same.
Theresa - And the flavor is...
Alli - Beh...
Joe - It is marshmallow flavored...
Alli went to the trash to spit hers out.

Theresa - Yuck. That tastes like a plastic Peep.
Alli - That tastes like badness, badness, badness, etc.
Theresa - It's plastic flavored Peep. Yuck.
Joe - I agree.
Theresa - Guessing you won't see those again next year.
Joe - On a scale of 1 to 10, what would these be?
Theresa - Definitely a 1.
Ian - But mama, what would regular Peeps be?
Theresa - Probably a 4.
Joe - Not really scaling high heights are we.
Theresa - A regular marshmallow would only be a 6.
Joe - And covered with sugar isn't better?!?
Theresa - That is not a good texture for me.

I split one open to see what's really inside. Alli thought it looked like bacon. I thought it looked like a crab leg.

Trying some of the white by itself, it was better. Texture and flavor both.
The outside is what's really bringing these down.
Theresa - Plastic flavored marshmallows. Yum!
Joe - It needs citrus or something. Otherwise it just tastes like gummy plastic.
Alli, I think you can take the rest of these and toss them in the trash. Thanks for trying Peeps, but we don't like this one.

  1. The split-opened "pink/red" one does look like crab meat!...too bad it didn't taste as good as crab meat (well, for a non-seafood eater that wouldn't matter ;-) ) I think the taste comments of "badness, badness.." and "plastic peep" describe the ranking for this "Peeps treat". Looks like Ian's initial trepidation on this taste test was well-founded. Oh well, there is the original Peeps to make things right (except for T, of course :-) ). I'm with you Alli, why only one "pink/red" rope when there were four yellow ones? EOM
