National Chocolate Milk Day - September 27th

Mmm. Chocolate Milk. It's so good. Today is National Chocolate Milk Day!
And it just so happens that we're in Colorado with Gram and Pop Pop to celebrate!
I don't know if your household is a pre-made chocolate milk family, or maybe a chocolate syrup family, but as for this family we are a Nestle Quik powder family.

And we've been a Nestle's Quik family ever since my mom was a little girl. She has memories when she was little of going into the pantry with a teaspoon and getting a scoop as a chocolate treat.
I remember growing up and having that metal lid that you needed to use the spoon to open.

We've got milk and Nestle Quik!

Hey! Check out those spoons!

Back in the early 80s, my mom clipped UPCs and mailed away for these Nestle Quik Bunny spoons to get one for both me and my brother. I used these all the time making chocolate milk when I was growing up. And of course my mom has still got them! They're perfect to use for chocolate milk day. And just for fun I looked at eBay to see if they're still around. And yes! They're still pretty popular, selling for about $40 each!

Alright kids, you're making it today.

That's a nice heaping spoonful Ian.

Stir it all together. After he stirred it, Ian was about to take out the spoon. No no, leave it in there.

How do you know if you have enough chocolate? Look at the bottom. If you've got a layer of chocolate on the bottom it's just about enough.
And that's what you need to leave the spoon in there for. To get everything mixed back together again.

Two thumbs way way up.

And that's where I thought I was going to end this post. As I was writing everything up, I was looking up the history of the Nestle Quik spoons and came across this order form for them. Like I said earlier, we're in Colorado visiting family.
Oh wow. Hey Mom! Do you remember that Nestle Quik mug that we used to have? That was so great!
Mom - I've still got it! Let me go find it!

Sure enough, a couple minutes later she pulls out that awesome bunny mug.

I can't not make some chocolate milk in this now. And maybe just maybe I also tried small spoonful of the chocolate powder all by itself, just like mom used to do.

Now that brings back some good memories.

What a fun day to celebrate, made even better by celebrating it back home with my folks!

  1. What a traveling family...with endless energy :-) Awwwwwww...that was so wonderful to dig up the cute bunny spoons and mug, and use them after so many years...what a nostalgic experience to relive! (also amazing is that the spoons and mug are in fine condition, and were located quickly!) I definitely remember that metal canister where you needed a spoon (or fork) end to pop it open...it was such a treat to use that chocolate powder in our milk :-)...haven't seen that metal canister picture in a long time...brings back memories :-) EOM

    1. I agree that is was particularly impressive how quickly my mother was able to locate the mug. The spoons have been regulars in the silverware drawer for as long as I can remember.
I haven't seen those metal canisters for a long time either. Funny what you forget.
