Toasted Marshmallow Day - August 30th

Today is National Toasted Marshmallow Day! Last year we were in Arizona hanging out with friends and visiting a resort. They had fire pits there and even marshmallows to toast!

The kids were ready to help in the kitchen.

We've got regular chocolate of course, but why not mix things up a bit! Raiding our chocolate bin, we're getting a few of our favorites. Ian loves 3 Musketeers. Alli loves Snickers. Theresa is trying a Dove chocolate. And I thought a Butterfinger could be pretty tasty.

We're using the baked in the oven method to toast our marshmallows. 400F for 5 minutes and these will be toasty!

All the chocolate is set, now it's time to cap them off.

Mommy helped top things off with marshmallows. For some we needed to cut them 3/4 of the way through and open them up. That'll help them stay on the chocolate easier.

They're topped off with another graham cracker and then they go into the oven. We've got a couple extra marshmallows that are free-standing to toast by themselves for National Toasted Marshmallow Day too.

After a few minutes things are starting to get puffy.

We left them 6 minutes instead of 5 to add a little bit more color.

Those freestanding marshmallows got really big!

We're going to have to eat them!

They're out of the oven and ready to eat!

Toasted marshmallows for everybody!

S'mores are delicious!

By baking them in the oven, they get extra gooey.

Thumbs up from Ian. That 3 Musketeers worked out wonderfully!

I think they're great too. My Butterfinger was good.

Alli liked her Snickers S'mores.

Oh so gooey.

Alli - Take a picture Daddy!
Yep, it gets everywhere. Happy National Toasted Marshmallow day!

  1. What a "gooey" smile, Alli :-) Never thought of different chocolate candies to replace the standard chocolate for a s'more...what an excellent idea!...lets everyone customize their "chocolate" flavor. Those free standing marshmallows fresh out of the oven reminded me of mini baos! EOM

    1. That's funny. Theresa said the exact same thing when they came out of the oven that they looked like little bao buns.
I thought Ian made a very good choice with the 3 Musketeers. The nougat fluff melted just fine inside the graham, along with the marshmallow.

  2. We always like to use York Peppermint Patties! They're a good size once they melt and add just a little bit different flavor.
