National Fluffernutter Day - October 8th
Happy Thursday! Today is National Fluffernutter Day! Have you never had a Fluffernutter before? Don't worry, neither had I before today!
Back in 1913, Emma and Amory Curtis invented a marshmallow creme, and published a recipe for a peanut butter and marshmallow creme sandwich. The very first Fluffernutter!
The kids have never had Fluffernutters either, so they were recruited to help make their own. The ingredients are simple. Bread, Marshmallow Creme, and some nut butter.
Mmm. Marshmallow fluff.
I figured this would be the cleanest way to do it. One knife in each jar.
Grab a couple slices of bread Alli.
It helps when you hold your tongue like that.
Both Alli and Ian have opted to use the chocolate hazelnut spread Nutella to make a Nutella-Fluffernutter.
Looking good Ian. Getting some practice with a butter knife spreading sticky stuff on bread. He'll be making his own lunches before I know it.
And Alli is doing a great job keeping things clean.
After doing one kind, they swapped jars and knives and applied the other one to the other bread.
The marshmallow is a little bit sticky to spread, so Mommy was enlisted to help. Ian just opted to pile more marshmallow on top versus spreading it out.
Two beautifully covered slices! Time to close it up!
I opted to make the classic peanut butter and marshmallow fluff.
Not bad from a mess perspective for having such super sticky ingredients.
One of each of our finished sandwiches. I'm looking forward to trying my first Fluffernutter. With these tasty ingredients, how could it be bad?
Let's eat them!
Grandpa had a taste. He said it's good, but it would be even better with some banana slices.
And Alli let Mommy have a bite. She thought it was okay, but she'd rather have peanut butter and honey, or peanut butter and jelly.
The kids though are the real judges. They've given it a big thumbs up.
Alli stayed pretty clean through it all. Ian managed to get Nutella all over himself. Arms, face, and even his thumb.
Both kids finished all but a couple bites of their Fluffernutter sandwich. I was happy to take care of the rest. This was a tasty new treat that we had a fun time making! Happy Fluffernutter day!
Fluffernutter...learned a new food :-) The marshmallow creme is so hard to spread, especially on bread...looks like everyone did a good job making it happen. The ingredients and combinations all sound good...adding slices of a banana sound tasty, too! Looks like the nutella got the better of Ian in his Fluffernutter :-) EOM
