Saturday Morning Cereals - Wendy's Frosty Chocolatey Cereal

Another new cereal to try? I'm game! Today's cereal is supposed to tasty like a Wendy's Frosty! Will it live up to its claim? Let's find out!

While wandering the nearby Sam's Club, I found this 2-pack of Wendy's Frosty Chocolatey Cereal for $6. The kids asked if we were going to get it for a taste test. Yes, I think this would make a great taste test.

And so, with our cereal box in hand, we headed to our nearby Wendy's to do a comparison between the original chocolate Frosty and the Frosty cereal. In front of the store, they even had a giant inflatable Frosty!

Today we're going to try the Chocolate Frosty and the Vanilla Frosty. I know there's marshmallows in this box of chocolate cereal too, and I'm figuring they are vanilla flavored.

On the back of the box are all sorts of Wendy's Frosty Facts. They also suggest putting a bowl of cereal in the freezer for 5 minutes before adding your milk. That sounds a little odd. Does that actually do anything?
The other cool thing on the box is an offer for a free small Frosty when you purchase anything. It's not even a unique code so anyone can follow the link and get one on their Wendy's account. Just enter your email address that's on your account and it'll be there in seconds.
Free Wendy's Frosty with purchase. We used it to buy a Jr Frosty (99 cents) and got a Small Frost ($1.49) for free!

I did bring my own bowls and milk to the Wendy's dining room to try this out. Making it the best experience possible for trying this cereal.

First we're going to try this cereal dry. In short, the dry cereal by itself is terrible. Jacob likened it to "beat up Kix with less sugar". It's not sweet like Cocoa Puffs, Cocoa Krispies, or any of those other chocolatey cereals. I heard "cardboard" mentioned about how it tasted too.

After adding milk, it was much better. That's really odd how much better it could be when you add milk to it. The marshmallows didn't stand out very much to me.
It's difficult to say if this tastes like a Frosty or not. Frostys themselves are a light chocolate and vanilla flavor already with no distinct taste that stands out to me. This Wendy's Frosty Cereal is a generic chocolate cereal with nothing that stands out about it either. Theresa said eating it without seeing the box, she'd have no way to identify this as tasting like a Frosty.

But you know what does taste like a Frosty? A Chocolate Wendy's Frosty! These are way better than the cereal!

Now it's time to start experimenting. What about a spoonful of Chocolate and Vanilla Frosty with cereal? That's actually really good! I like the crunchy texture to go along with the creaminess of the ice cream.

When you're done with your cereal, you're left with a bowl of chocolate milk!

One thing you can't easily do with the cereal though is dip your French Fries into it. That experience is still exclusively the property of the Frozen Wendy's Frosty!
In the end, we thought the cereal was just okay, nothing special.

  1. Can't imitate that Frozen Wendy's Frosty...cereal was no match! It is strange that the cereal's sweetness came out only after milk was added...something in the milk must have triggered something in the cereal and/or marshmallows (not quite the same thing but was thinking how the same seasoned food can taste different based on whether it's steamed, baked, microwaved, etc). What a deal to get a free (more expensive) Small Frosty w/ the purchased but less-costly Jr Frosty! Quite a sight to the Wendy's workers there...seeing your own bowls, milk, & cereal along with the Frozen Frosty treats! EOM
