Holiday Treats - Seasonal Flavored Goat Cheeses

I am always on the lookout for interesting holiday treats. I totally found that when I was exploring my local Aldi.

Holiday Goat Cheese logs! Sure you've seen cranberry covered goat cheese, but we're going for something a little more unique today. The three flavors we're trying today are: Gingerbread, Sweet Cranberry Stuffing, and Eggnog.

And we're tasting them in paradise, at the beautiful Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando. Temperatures are in the 70s during this Christmas week in December.

I like that the goats on the front of the package are dressed for the holidays too.

I wasn't sure what to expect from these, but I definitely had some thoughts on which ones I would like best.

You can see bits of spices in the Gingerbread. The Sweet Cranberry goat cheese is the one I'm most looking forward to. And I really just got to Eggnog flavor to be a completionist and get all 3 flavors that were available. I do like eggnog, but I'm not sure how it'll be as goat cheese on a cracker.

And I know goat cheese is not everyone's favorite either. It's a creamy and tangy cheese which sometimes puts people off.
Rita, Payton, and I both loved the Gingerbread goat cheese. It's very very sweet! I'm tasting spices, but not molasses. It has a light ginger flavor to it.
I was very surprised with the next flavor, Sweet Cranberry Stuffing. In my mind, when I read the label, I saw SWEET CRANBERRY and completely ignored the STUFFING part of it. After taking a bite, whew! This goat cheese log tastes like a box of Stovetop Stuffing. So heavy on the sage flavor that it's hard to taste the cranberry. It's definitely a savory flavor, and I'm having a hard time picking out the "sweet" cranberry.

Last up is the Eggnog Goat Cheese log. I was worried it would be overpowering, but it was a light and pleasant taste. Donald said it had a "Full rounded and smooth flavor. Not artificial. Lights up his whole mouth." I think even if you're not a fan of eggnog, you might just like this one.

The winner for me today was the Gingerbread Goat Cheese log. I loved the sweet flavor and the hints of other holiday spices. Coming in second was the Eggnog Goat Cheese log. It was good, but not as good as the Gingerbread. And the "never want to try that again" award goes to the Sweet Cranberry Stuffing Goat Cheese log.
All three of these were found at Aldi for $2.49 each.

  1. Such a festive, cutely-dressed goat on the goat cheese labels. Very interesting cheese flavors...good to hear a definite favorite stood out...too bad there was a "stuffing" added to the sweet cranberry! But it was a fun holiday food/treat to try! EOM

    1. These were at a grocer called Aldi in 2021. I don't see the Eggnog flavor available this year, but Cranberry Stuffing and Gingerbread both appear to still be available!
