Holiday Taste Test - Wendy's Peppermint Frosty

I was so excited to see that Wendy's is releasing a new Frosty flavor this year!
We love the regular Chocolate Wendy's Frosty, so much so that we've even taste tested Wendy's Frosty Chocolate Cereal! And then when Wendy's released the Strawberry Frosty, we did a Neopolitan Frosty taste test, stopping at two different Wendy's restaurants to get Vanilla and Chocolate as well!

Yellow Wendy's is just a little bit better than the newer signage Wendy's. And look! They've got the Peppermint Frosty! Let's go inside and get one!

Both inside and outside I've seen signage announcing the Peppermint Frosty. And I've had a couple people sending me texts to say that Wendy's had a new flavor. Let's try it!

Every year, from November to December, Wendy's partners with the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption and sells Frosty Key Tags. For $2, you get either a physical keychain tag, or a digital key tag which gives you a free Jr Frosty with any purchase. 85% of all proceeds go to the foundation, helping children in foster homes find forever homes.

And so after I bought the key tag, I can now buy Junior Frostys for 99 cents and get another Junior Frosty free! Perfect for getting both the regular Chocolate Frosty and a Peppermint Frosty too!

Let's taste them! Theresa and I have both been looking forward to having this one.
Upon taking a bite...
Theresa - There's not much peppermint flavor to it.
Joe - It tastes a lot like vanilla. Very minimal amount of peppermint to it.
Theresa - If someone wanted a peppermint milkshake, they'd be disappointed with that.
I take that to mean that she's disappointed in this one.

Yeah, if I had to taste test the peppermint milkshake with my eyes closed, I would say this was vanilla. I wonder if each store gets a peppermint Frosty mix, or if it's something they add in to the regular Vanilla Frosty.

We've got to try to mix the two flavors together, right? Peppermint Chocolate?
Actually because the peppermint is so muted, it tastes like Chocolate.

After finishing these two Frosty flavors, Alli hopped up and looked like she was going to the counter. I called her back and asked what she was doing. Turned out she was just looking for a trash can. Ooh, but what if you could get a refill on a Frosty?
Ian - I'll do it.
Theresa and I were trying not to laugh while he went up there.

But it pays off to be a cute and polite kid! Shortly after, he came back to the table with a refill on his chocolate Frosty. We made sure to give them big Thank Yous on the way out.
So, the Peppermint Frosty is a bit of a bust (or we just got a weak mix). I think we've got to try another place to get our Peppermint Milkshake fix.
Stay tuned this December for more Holiday Taste Tests!

  1. Way to go, Ian...you successfully got your special refill :-) Was disappointed to hear the peppermint flavor was so muted...was even expecting a few crushed peppermint sprinkles on top!...oh, well, at least you got a "vanilla" shake out of it :-) EOM
