Hershey's Kiss Size Comparison - How much bigger is a Giant Hershey's Kiss?

While I was shopping one day, in the Holiday section I found a Giant Hershey's Kiss. Wow! That's got to be the biggest Hershey's Kiss I've seen. That gives me an idea for another size comparison post. I've already done one with the 8 different sizes of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and 5 different sizes of Oreos. Let's see how those little Hershey's Kisses with the Big Chocolate Taste measure up!

For our comparison today, we're going to look at:
  • Hershey's Kisses Chocolate Chips
  • Hershey's Mini Kisses
  • Hershey's Kisses Original
  • Hershey's Kisses 1.45 oz (41g)
  • Hershey's Kisses 7 oz (198g)
  • Hershey's Giant Kiss 12 oz (340g)

Created in 1904, the teardrop Hershey's Kisses were originally wrapped in foil by hand! In 1924, the paper strip, which is called a plume, was added to make it stand out from all its competitors. These are all the different versions I could find that were wrapped in foil.

The production was halted briefly during WW2 due to the rationing of aluminum foil.

We could have stopped right there and it would have been just fine, but, I know there's even more Hershey's Kisses sizes that are around.

I found Hershey's Mini Kisses and Hershey's Chocolate Chips too!

When I was searching these out, I could only find the Hershey's Mini Kisses in large bulk purchases. I don't need 5 lbs of Hershey's Mini Kisses, so I was searching for an alternative. So did I buy this Hershey's Brownie Kit just for the Mini Kisses that came inside it? Yes, yes I did.

Along with the brownie mix and chocolate chips, are 15 Hershey's Mini Kisses. Hooray!

Our last entry for this Hershey's Kisses size comparison are these Hershey's Milk Chocolate Chips. Do they say Hershey's Kisses anywhere on the package? No they don't, but I'm going to check with the judges. While the judges are deliberating, I checked the ingredients on the back, and they are the exact same and in the same order as the Original Hershey's Kisses.
The judges are giving me the thumbs up, so we're good!

Which one would you choose?

From the left to the right, a single Hershey's Kiss Chocolate Chip weighs 0.0155oz or 0.44g each.

Next is the Hershey's Mini Kiss which weighs 0.047oz or 1.33g each.

The Original Hershey's Kiss is 0.16oz or 4.66g each.

There's no special name that I could find for the 1.45oz Hershey's Kiss, so unsurprisingly this one weighed in at 1.45oz or 41g.

We're working our way up the list. Again, there's no special name I could find for the 7 oz Hershey's Kiss. I do see these quite a bit more frequently around the Holidays. On my scale this one weighed 7.1oz or 201g.

And now we get to the big one. This one is called a Hershey's Giant Kiss. It's 12oz on the package, but on my scale it weighed in at 12.4oz or 352g. As we'll see, the inside of this is hollow, so there's a little extra wiggle room on the weight.

And when you put them all in a line, you can see the gradual increase in size.

A top-down view. That Giant Hershey's Kiss is huge compared to the Hershey's Kiss Chocolate Chips.

How much bigger is the Giant Hershey's Kiss?
1 Giant Hershey's Kiss = 800 Hershey's Kiss Chocolate Chips
1 Giant Hershey's Kiss = 264 Hershey's Mini Kisses
1 Giant Hershey's Kiss = 75 Original Hershey's Kisses

Alli is always willing to be my helper when I'm taking photos of everything.

Who is ready for the ultimate Hershey's Kiss taste test? My choice of clothing, the silver (gray) undershirt and blue/white overshirt was deliberate.

And that's a classic Hershey's Kiss hat from the 80s or 90s. You know how I love to collect interesting hats.

Honestly, all these chocolates taste the same. They're different sizes, but it's all the same chocolate that makes them up.

Some of the bigger kisses can get a little tricky to bite into. If these had been refrigerated, I'm sure this chocolate would have more of a snap to it. I've had it at room temperature, so you can still get through the chocolate with your teeth. I suggested we get a knife to cut it into pieces, but Alli said she was alright. She bit the tip right off.

Our final Kiss is the Hershey's Giant Kiss. Before opening the package, I was wondering how I would break it apart. Once I unwrapped the foil though, I saw that it was pre-broken for me. Strategic positioning and maybe a little Photoshop helped it look whole in the pictures above.

We can see the hollow insides, and I'm guessing this is where a little bit of the variation in weight comes from. Instead of a fixed mold, there's waves of chocolate that aren't quite flat.

That's a pretty big topper to that Giant Hershey's Kiss.

You can take a pretty big bite off the side. It's a lot of chocolate.

Ian bit off the tip and now I can see him through it.

Even if it all tastes the same, do you guys have a favorite?
Both of them voted for the Giant Hershey's Kiss because it's just so much more fun to eat!

Both kids - Can we eat just a little more chocolate?
Sure, why not. Knock yourselves out.

Interesting. The bottom of the Giant Hershey's Kiss has a tread pattern on it.

Alli - Daddy, know how you can make it better? More Kisses inside!

Great idea Alli! Even more chocolate!
I hope you've enjoyed this look at the different size Hershey's Kisses available, and remember, you can make any day just a little sweeter with a Hershey's Kiss!

  1. That Hershey's Giant Kiss is Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge!!!!! Nice graphic of the various Kisses (good use of coloring for the labeling). The top-down view at a really quick glance makes the Kisses appear spherical...interesting illusion; also, the "line-up" view just prior to the top-down was interesting because one sees the smallest Kiss suddenly morph into a giant in five stages. Great resourcefulness tracking down the Mini Kisses...now you get to make a Hershey's brownie, too :-) Haven't had too many occasions to show off your unique hats this year, but that Hershey's one was definitely the perfect choice for this comparison test...what a unique one, too. That was a "classic" shot with Ian and Alli simultaneously biting into each side of the Giant Kiss...cute! What a "sweet" size comparison test :-) EOM

  2. I love this! Would you be able to tell me how much the giant kiss would weigh and/ or how many of the other sizes would fit inside of it if it was solid chocolate? I need to know the answer to this, but I'm an English teacher, not a math person. Thanks so much for your neat lessons.

    1. That's a great question!

From what I can figure, the volume of the large 12oz Hershey's Kiss is 82 cubic inches. If it was solid chocolate it would weigh about 40 ounces. That's 2.5 pounds!

If you were to make it out of smaller kisses that would be, 2575 Chocolate Chip Kisses, 850 Hershey's Mini Kisses, or 250 Original Hershey's Kisses!
